Headline News: Poet Gets Paid to Write!

It has happened. I received actual cash $$ (well, in my Paypal account) for a piece of writing. Albeit, it's not poetry. It's a personal essay, and you can read it here.

Not quite enough money to go out on the town, but I might go out on the village, or hamlet. Or maybe I'll just go out in my back yard. Live it up right, I tell you.

  1. it's a beautiful piece, T. and i hope you got big bucks for it!

i also regret the loss of place that accompanied my divorce. it's harder, i think, as we get older...i don't remember that association of location so much with my romances in younger years--but as we age, we seem to attach more to the land, wanting to live out our time in a specific place with someone we love.

    1. Susan, I think we're both writers who feel a deep connection to the land. I've been this way from the beginning, and it's kind of a curse, because it makes giving it up all that much more difficult. But then the gift of that connection is worth it all unto itself, I think. To be able to live our lives on sacred earth makes us blessed, and I am grateful.

  2. oh, T. Your story is so eloquently told...intimate and heartfelt, and respectful of P., despite the pain he caused. AND you got paid for it!! Your prose is as beautiful as your poetry. I could read your work all day long. Soon, I will get to read your forthcoming BOOK! You dazzle me with your writing, pull me in to a very special world, and I thank you.

    1. Claire, hard earned and hardly worth the effort, if we are to measure our successes as writers by the piddling monetary return that is all too infrequent. Happily, I relinquished that illusion (of cash for words) decades ago. Grateful for the gift of writing, and that is enough.
      xT.
