Hive

In the driveway this morning, fallen from an eave:
half of a house, its inner caverns exposed.
Buzz and bumble vacated.

  1. Great photo-- they are such delicate & intricate constructions. We see a lot of those out this way, usually with hornets flying in & out.

  2. John, they are indeed beautiful. I'm always amazed at the fear that hornets/bees/wasps stir up, when they build the likes of this. One summer we had a human-head sized black hornets nest outside my kids' bedroom window, so we had a front-row view of the activity. There were some men working in the next yard (painting, I think) and I forbade them to do anything to my hornets nest!

  4. and that sort of empty is how I feel at the end of the day, when all is quiet and time for me to prepare for the next festival of buzzing, especially after all the honey production we/you are accomplishing these days! I feel like the right side, empty, and ready to build more containers for the next day. Quiet, but busy in another way. Nice photo!
