Fern

Where bracken ferns grow thickly, if you are nimble enough (and probably small enough) you can scoot on your back until you are thick in the middle of them, underneath their lace, and you'll find that you have a kind of private room there, and you'll be invisible, because no one will ever look for you under a canopy of bracken ferns, as it is the most unlikely of places to linger.

  2. A lovely notion...
the reality in the Highlands of Scotland...
Bracken is where the midges hide.
Brushing the bracken as you pass, the attack comes from a canopy-clad army.
Fighting with tooth and claw, they rise in a cloud
Thickly, quickly, wildly through the bracken your plump legs pump the ground.
Fairies and small people have brokered a symbiotic truce?

    1. Elizabeth, when you visit Seattle, we'll go in search of a fine glade of bracken ferns.
