Outside Paul's house is a massive Japanese maple,
and this morning the sun shone through all its
iced branches, making a prism of every melting
snowdrop. One could only guess that a tree
much like this was the inspiration for the
first crystal chandelier. (Crystal chandeliers
date back to the 18th century.) I stood beneath
and was gently
tick-tick-ticked by falling ice.
aren't you supposed to be calling it "our" house?
