It was my good fortune to hear Liam O'Maonlai perform in a small Australian-style pub in Seattle. Here's a marvelous example of his talent:
Last night it was just Liam and his keyboard, bodrhain, tin whistle, harmonica and didgeridoo. (Unfortunately he never picked up his guitar.) I managed a quick chat with the Dublin-based singer, and oh, he's a regular *sexy* Gaelic man, I must say....
Sigh.
Beautiful. Shame it wasn't filmed in a smoke filled crowded pub'.
ReplyDeleteT., he's probably deeply troubled. Wink. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteI'd not heard his music - thanks for sharing.
It sounds like it's coming across vast reaches of time.
ReplyDeleteCro, ha! Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Seattle. Yay.
ReplyDeleteTara, funny, after the show he came and sat down right across the table from me (I'd been abandoned by my friends) and was getting ready to strike up a conversation when four twenty-something girls came flouncing onto his lap, all a-flutter and all mini-skirted and overflowing cleavage. Well. I couldn't compete with that.
ReplyDeleteBut earlier -- (you'll like this) -- I leaned and whispered to my friend,
"Ah, he's a tender troubled soul, isn't he?"
Yep. An entire clover-field full of trouble, I'd reckon ;)
Dolores, there is definitely a timeless quality to his singing, isn't there?
ReplyDeleteLast night he did a few of these traditional tunes in the Irish language, but also did more contemporary pieces, including a Dylan song I wasn't familiar with called Is Your Love in Vain?. Lovely, melancholic, haunting stuff.
I've a thing for those Gaelic men -- for centuries, I think.
